Fashion Week Berlin

Berlin's first Showroom-Mile

Tom Felber for creative face Magazine

From July 17 until July 20, 2008 Berlin offers a new fashion-event - the first Showroom-Mile in Berlin's fashionable Mitte district. This year's launch allows everyone to experience the Berlin Fashion Week first hand at places like for example Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Guggenheim, Galeries Lafayette Berlin, Vonderbank Artgalleries, Palazzo Italia or Bentley Store. Companies host designers and their collections; art galleries enter into innovative and interdisciplinary collaborations; fashion will engage with traditional Berlin royal porcelain; and Berlin fashion schools will show off the work of their best students and create exciting projects. The first Showroom-Mile guarantees a glance into an impressive mixture of fashion, art and product design. The Showroom-Mile is the idea and an initiative of Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Labour and Women's issues Berlin and is implemented by INPOLIS UCE GmbH. As from January 2009, the project will be continued in a larger scale.

One of three examples for Showroom-Mile events is the presentation of the Collection of Hope at Deutsche Bank (Unter den Linden 13/15) on Saturday and Sunday. The Collection of Hope is a project of the ex-topmodel Waridi Schrobsdorff's organisation i-magine e.V.. Collection of Hope combines a sensational fashion collection - which already has been successfully presented at the BREAD & BUTTER Barcelona - with ecological and social themes. Designed by young students at the international fashion school ESMOD in Berlin and Munich, this exclusive line promotes "Fair Trade" and environmentally friendly production and supports projects in Kenya.

In the same building at the Deutsche Guggenheim Museum Shop jewelry design meets art. The Deutsche Guggenheim has been closely connected with Berlin's fashion scene ever since it arrived in the city. For the Showroom-Mile, the muse-store features jewelry designed by argumente in berlin, Rita Franze, Kiel Mead, and Fabian Siebert, as well as Berlin design from Mark Braun, Jakob Diezinger, and Olze & Wilkens, among many others.

Around the corner Berlin's best young fashion designers will be found at Galeries Lafayette Berlin under the title BEST OF LABO MODE. Among others designers like c.neeon, Penkov or Smeilinener who show their latest collection during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with an own fashion show can be found. BEST OF LABO MODE is an event within the LABO MODE project of Galeries Lafayette Berlin.

For one week, from July 14 until July 20, 2008, Berlin's best young fashion designers will be found at Galeries Lafayette Berlin under the title BEST OF LABO MODE. Among others designers like c.neeon, Penkov or Smeilinener who show their latest collection during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with an own fashion show can be found. BEST OF LABO MODE is an event within the LABO MODE project of Galeries Lafayette Berlin and part of the Berlin's 1. SHOWROOM MEILE.

LABO MODE started in January 2004 at the PREMIUM trade fair. In co-operation with the international fashion school ESMOD Berlin, Galeries Lafayette Berlin was the first department store in Germany to kick-off a project promoting regional up-and-coming designers.

'Let's make a collection together. Let's take it further and set up an independent company which both the helpers and the supported profit from. A collection to inspire hope. The COLLECTION OF HOPE.'

Having successfully worked with Waridi Schrobsdorff on a number of projects, in fall 2007, Silvia Kadolsky and Dorothea Beisser of ESMOD GERMANY, Klaus Metz of Fashion Patrons and Thierry Prevost of Galeries Lafayette Europe agreed to accompany the founder of the 'i-magine e.V.' association on a visit to her native Kenya in order to view the work of the AMANI self-help group in Sultan Hamud, near the capital city Nairobi. 77 children aged between 2 months and 17 years, some of them with HIV, and 28 HIV-positive adults live in this community, supported by I-magine. This small institution may have some sad stories to tell but it is filled with energy, the urge to create and the desire to live a fulfilled life.
