The Designer Harri Koskinen, born 1970 in Karstula, Finland studied at Lahti Institute of Design and at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. He has been awarded in 2000 as "Young Designer of the Year" and his products received international awards like Red Dot Design Award 2001, iF Design Award 2002 and Design Plus 2002, Compasso d'Oro 2004 and most recently EDIDA 2007. Koskinen's Block Lamp is part of the Museum of Modern Art New York collection since 2000.
In 1998, he established his own studio called "Friends of Industry", which offers product and concept design as well as exhibition architecture. Koskinen's uncompromising and outstanding design has been internationally recognized right from the beginning of his career. His clients are international companies like Design House Stockholm, Issey Miyake Inc., Montina Panasonic, Seiko Instruments Inc., Swarovski etc. as well as the Finnish companies Artek, Iittala, Marimekko and Woodnotes. Harri Koskinen's design is characterized by practicality and strict aesthetic criteria. He is always searching for innovative solutions for both the consumer and the producer. Usually, Koskinen relies on existing techniques and materials but tries to take them a step further. He wants to keep his designs simple; he brings out the best qualities of a product or a space and lets them speak for themselves.
Koskinen's works on show in the HARDCORE exhibition is a new sound system designed for Genelec, a high end Finnish producer of audio equipment. The system is composed of the 6010A Satellite Speakers and the 5040A Subwoofer (2008). The 6010A is a compact active loudspeaker optimized for close proximity listening applications. Its small size, high sound quality and rugged construction make it an ideal sound system for the travelling professional. No matter where you are, listening to sounds through these loudspeakers is always a pleasure. The 5040A active subwoofer is designed to complement up to five 6010A satellite loudspeakers with an accurate and dynamic bass response.
